Inspired by Chan’s challenges in living and working as a visual artist away from home, a series of filmed performance presenting Chan packing, unpacking and moving speedily boxes of her artworks in storage was conceived. It reflects Chan’s moments of anxieties and despair, her struggles in treating her past artworks and her refusal to simply put them to end of life in storage.
These filmed performances installed as part of an immersive floating sculpture fabricated using fabric scraps from Chan’s mother, shipped from Singapore to Tasmania, present psychological spaces of transition through the physical as Chan explores wearable art as charged objects in relation to the body and environment. Red Tunnel delivers the pilgrimage into the infinity of space accompanied by a mother’s love. |
