Garden of the Sorrowful
Journey to Peace, 2019
Still from film Garden of the Sorrowful is a transformative new media sculpture installation that explores a wide range of visual forms including sculpture, drawing, costume design and performance through a film production – Journey to Peace. Inspired by the continuous exchange of floral images between Chan and her mother who resides in Singapore, Garden of the sorrowful unveils the confrontation of a challenging journey to reconcile personal emotions in the search for inner peace. The filmed performance captures an attempt to overcome the negative emotions hindering the full expression of, and reception of, affection. This work is informed by Chan’s affection for her mother, explicitly drawing on her expression of faith to conquer fears from within. Garden of the Sorrowful, 2019
